Cowhide and Leather

There is a good reason why cows can stand out in all weathers and be fully protected! Once cleaned and treated, natural cowhide provides an incredible material from which to make everything from bags to furniture. Leather is a wonderful product, being completely natural and highly durable. It is extremely tactile and looks and feels welcoming. It also adjusts quickly to body temperature making it ideal for rugs and other furniture products such as bean bags and cushions.

All our cowhides and leather are fully treated and conditioned by a lengthy process that is completely in accordance with the highest accepted international standards. We could go into considerable detail, but suffice it to say that this includes soaking, liming, fleshing, tanning, sammying, grading, splitting, shaving, retanning, dyeing, drying and then finishing, all before selling! Our cowhide and leather is soft and supple unlike cheaper versions which will be hard and cracked, shedding hair and often with a rather unpleasant odour.

Canvas

Our canvas is made in eastern Africa and is designed to cope with the harshest use and extremes of weather. The African bush can be a harsh and unforgiving environment where arid conditions, acacia thorns and remorseless sunlight all combine! Our canvas has been made to cope with these conditions and was first used for tents, bags and water carriers. This pedigree means that your canvas products will definitely not let you down and if you do take your laptop bag into the bush then we guarantee that the laptop will have problems long before the bag!

Zips

All of our zips are precision made, polished and deburred for 18 hours to give a smooth running fastener. The sliders are made in one piece to give added strength and are precision made by a process called spark erosion to give strength and durability. The chain is made from a high percentage copper alloy and is completely nickel free - each metal tooth is polished repeatedly until it is as smooth as possible, then the teeth are electroplated in 14 different finishes and a rainbow of colors. This unique process makes the metal zippers we use the softest and finest in the world!

Metalwork

All our metalwork is made from solid brass. The metal is highly machined and polished giving you a long lasting, durable and great looking product. Brass has traditionally been valued for its bright gold-like appearance and this is the perfect offset to the products we have on offer. It gives off a warm and pleasing feel and gives the distinct impression of solidity and substance.

Manufacturing

All our products are manufactured by skilled craftsmen using high quality industrial sewing machines in the Ark manufacturing rooms in Nairobi. All the bags are individually made and then subject to a rigorous quality control process which ensures that what is delivered to you is what you would expect.
